Description

This French banknote was issued by the Amiens Chamber of Commerce in 1915. It has a face value of two francs.

The front of the banknote features a composition with allegorical elements and symbols of local economic activity. In the center, a woman symbolizing the Republic is seated, holding an olive branch, a symbol of peace and prosperity. Alongside her, representations of industry and agriculture highlight the importance of these sectors for the Amiens region. The name of the issuing chamber, "Chambre de Commerce d'Amiens", is clearly indicated, as is the face value of the banknote, "2 francs". The date of issue, "1915", is also mentioned. Decorative motifs and ornaments complete the composition, framing the main elements.

The back of the banknote uses similar graphic elements, ensuring visual consistency. The face value, "2 francs", is repeated several times. Geometric motifs and arabesques adorn the entire back, contributing to the complexity of the design and securing the banknote against counterfeiting. Legal notices and information about the issuer are also present.

This banknote testifies to the economic and social context of France during the First World War, where Chambers of Commerce were authorized to issue emergency currency to compensate for the lack of cash.
