This French 2-franc banknote was issued by the Banque d'Émission de Lille on December 15, 1917. It belongs to series 018.
The front of the note, written in Latin, bears the inscription "BANQUE D’ÉMISSION DE LILLE" at the top, followed by the date of issue. The face value "2 FRANCS" is clearly indicated. It also features the signatures of the managing director and the president of the bank. The mention "SOCIÉTÉ ANONYME AU CAPITAL DE CENT - MILLE FRANCS" specifies the structure and capital of the issuing bank. Two frames adorn the bottom of the note: on the left, "L'INDUSTRIE FÉCONDE LE TRAVAIL", and on the right, "LA SCIENCE ÉCLAIRE L'INDUSTRIE". The printer's name, "DELEMAR & DUBAR IMP. LILLE", also appears on the front.
The back of the note, also in Latin, warns against counterfeiting. It cites Article 139 of the Penal Code, which provides for forced labor for life for those who counterfeit or falsify banknotes authorized by law, as well as for those who use or introduce such counterfeit banknotes on French territory.
This banknote reflects the economic and legal context of France during World War I, with a particular emphasis on protection against monetary counterfeiting.
