This French banknote with a face value of 1000 francs, issued in 1956, features a portrait of Cardinal Richelieu and belongs to series O.241.
On the front, there is a bust of Cardinal Richelieu positioned on the right. In the background, a representation of the Palais Royal is visible. The inscriptions include the mention "BANQUE DE FRANCE" superimposed on "MILLE FRANCS". Engravers Jules Piel and André Marliat contributed to the creation of this side, based on a drawing by Clément Serveau.
The back features another bust of Cardinal Richelieu, this time placed on the left. On the right, a monumental gate of the city of Richelieu can be seen. An inscription recalls Article 139 of the Penal Code, stipulating the penalties for counterfeiting or falsifying banknotes, as well as for using such counterfeit or falsified banknotes. Robert Armanelli engraved this side based on a drawing by Clément Serveau.
The watermark reveals a profile head of Richelieu. The dimensions of the banknote are 150 mm in length by 80 mm in width.
