The front of the banknote features a statue of the goddess Demeter seated, holding Hercules as a child on her lap. A Provençal landscape is visible on the left, illustrating a shepherd guarding his goats. The inscriptions "BANQUE DE FRANCE" and the face value "1000 FRANCS" are present. The engraver of this part of the banknote is Georges Hourriez, while the designer is Lucien Hector Jonas.

The back of the banknote features a statue of Mercury on the left, accompanied by representations of the labors of Hercules. On the right, Hercules is depicted subduing Cerberus and offering Minerva the golden apples from the garden of the Hesperides. Deianira is also depicted, taking Atlas's place to support the world. A port and the city of Rouen are visible in the background. Legal notices relating to Article 139 of the Penal Code regarding the counterfeiting of banknotes are also included. Marguerite Dreyfus, also known as Rita, is the engraver of this part of the banknote, and Lucien Hector Jonas is the designer.
