The 1984 100 Francs Panthéon coin is a French commemorative coin struck in silver. It was issued as part of Fleur de Coin (FDC) sets.
The obverse of the coin features a representation of the Panthéon in Paris, an iconic monument. The inscription "AUX GRANDS HOMMES LA PATRIE RECONNAISSANTE" (To the great men, the grateful homeland) accompanies the central motif, evoking the Panthéon's function as a place of memory dedicated to prominent figures in French history. The inscription "RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" (French Republic) is placed on the periphery, emphasizing the coin's national identity.
The reverse of the coin depicts a rooted tree, symbolizing strength and stability. This tree is composed of two species: an oak, located on the left, and an olive tree, on the right. This composition is inscribed in a hexagon. The motto "LIBERTÉ ? ÉGALITÉ ? FRATERNITÉ" (Liberty ? Equality ? Fraternity) encircles the tree, recalling the fundamental values of the French Republic. Particular attention is paid to the orientation of the leaves, arranged horizontally on the left to evoke the color red in heraldry, and vertically on the right for the color blue, thus forming a subtle representation of the French tricolor flag. The face value "100 F" is also present on this side.
The coin's edge is smooth. It weighs 15 grams and has a diameter of 31 millimeters. The engravers Jean-Claude Dieudonné and Daniel Gédalge, as well as the Atelier de Gravure (A.G.M.M.), contributed to the artistic design of this coin.
