This French banknote with a face value of 100 francs was issued in 1937. It belongs to the X.56241 series.
The front of the banknote features allegorical personifications of Agriculture and Commerce, positioned on the right and left respectively. They are accompanied by two children. Fruit motifs and vegetal decoration also adorn this side. The whole is enhanced by gilded moldings. The inscriptions "BANQUE DE FRANCE", "CENT FRANCS" and the mention "PAYABLES EN ESPECES, A VUE, AU PORTEUR" are present. The signatures of the artists Luc Olivier Merson and Cesare Abramo Romagnoli, designer and engraver respectively, also appear on this side.
The back of the banknote depicts personifications of Labor, symbolized by a blacksmith on the left, and Fortune, represented by a woman and a child holding a cornucopia on the right. Gilded moldings also adorn this side. The inscriptions "BANQUE DE FRANCE" are repeated, the value "100 FR", as well as a reminder of article 139 of the Penal Code concerning the counterfeiting of banknotes. The names of the engravers Frédéric Florian and Cesare Abramo Romagnoli, as well as that of the designer Luc Olivier Merson, are mentioned.
The watermark on this banknote depicts the heads of CERES and MERCURY in profile.
