This 100 Francs coin commemorates the centenary of the Statue of Liberty (1886-1986). It was issued in 1986 by France. The coin is made of silver, weighs 15 grams and has a diameter of 31 millimeters.
The obverse of the coin depicts the Statue of Liberty being flown over by eleven birds. The dates "1886-1986" are inscribed, as well as the inscription "RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE". The obverse is the work of the Atelier de Gravure (A.G.M.M.) and the designer Michel Durand-Mégret.
The reverse of the coin features a tree topped with a Phrygian cap. The foliage of the tree consists of the motto "LIBERTÉ ÉGALITÉ FRATERNITÉ". A band crosses the motif, bearing the face value of "100F". The year of issue, "1986", and the name of the designer, "DURAND-MEGRET", are also present on the reverse. Like the obverse, the reverse is a creation of the Atelier de Gravure (A.G.M.M.) and Michel Durand-Mégret.
The edge of the coin is smooth. It belongs to the 100 Francs Statue of Liberty series.
This commemorative silver coin is a numismatic testament to the anniversary of an iconic monument and the historical links between France and the United States.
