This French 100 Francs commemorative coin, minted in 1993, pays tribute to Jean Moulin on the 50th anniversary of his death (1943-1993). It was issued as part of the "Liberté retrouvée" (Freedom Regained) series. This coin is a Proof (BE) strike and is sold without its box or certificate of authenticity.
The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Jean Moulin, an emblematic figure of the French Resistance, with the Cross of Lorraine in the background. The inscription "RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" is inscribed in an arc at the top of the coin, while the name "JEAN MOULIN" and the year "1993" are engraved below the portrait. The engraver of this face is Émile Rousseau.
The reverse of the coin depicts a torch, a symbol of the flame of the Resistance. The inscription "CONSEIL NATIONAL DE LA RÉSISTANCE 27 MAI 1943" recalls the date of the creation of this unifying body of the French internal Resistance. The face value "100 F." is indicated at the bottom of the coin.
The edge of the coin is smooth. It was minted by the Monnaie de Paris (Paris Mint). This coin is composed of 900? silver, with a weight of 22.2 grams and a diameter of 37 millimeters. The mintage of this coin is limited to 50,000 copies.
