This French banknote, with a nominal value of 100 francs, was issued on May 15, 1942. It belongs to series W.13.
The front of the banknote features a composition depicting René Descartes, seated on the right side. He holds a compass in his hand. Behind him, we can observe Clio, the muse of History, holding a large open book. An hourglass is also depicted on this side of the banknote. The inscriptions on the front, written in Latin script, include the mention "BANQUE DE FRANCE" repeated twice with the face value "100", as well as the indication "CENT FRANCS". Ernest Deloche is the engraver of this banknote, while Lucien Hector Jonas is the designer.
The back of the banknote features a bronze statue representing a winged Victory. The latter holds a shield on which the word "PAX" is engraved. The background of this side of the banknote consists of a rural scene illustrating the return of the harvest.
The dimensions of this banknote are 160 mm in length and 92 mm in width.
