This 10 Francs commemorative coin was minted in France in 1986, on the centenary of the birth of Robert Schuman (1886-1986). It is classified as a proof and comes from a BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) set. The coin is made of nickel, weighs 6.5 grams and has a diameter of 21 millimeters.
The obverse of the coin features, in a circular legend, the inscription "RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE". A stylized rooster is depicted on the left. The face value "10 FRANCS" and the year "1986" are inscribed on three lines to the right of the rooster. The engraver's signature "LOBBAN" is visible to the left of the rooster. John Lobban and the Atelier de Gravure (A.G.M.M.) are credited as engravers of this face.
The reverse of the coin features, in a circular legend, the republican motto "LIBERTÉ, ÉGALITÉ, FRATERNITÉ" as well as the name "ROBERT SCHUMAN". The twelve stars of the European Union are arranged in an "E" shape on the left. A profile portrait of Robert Schuman appears on the right. Bernard Turlan and the Atelier de Gravure (A.G.M.M.) are identified as the engravers of this face.
Robert Schuman, French Minister of Foreign Affairs, is recognized for his founding speech of May 9, 1950, which laid the foundations for the European Union. The edge of the coin is alternately smooth and reeded, with five series of reeds.
