Description

This French banknote, worth 10 francs, was issued in 1943. It is a banknote from the D.41 series, dated March 25, 1943.

The front of the banknote features an allegorical scene with two female figures. On the left, a woman wearing a Phrygian cap, a symbol of the French Republic, holds an olive branch, a symbol of peace. On the right, another woman, representing abundance, sits near a cornucopia overflowing with fruits and harvests. The whole scene evokes the prosperity and fertility of the nation. The face value "10 Francs" is clearly indicated in words and numbers. The name of the issuing country, "France", is also visible.

The back of the banknote repeats the same allegorical theme, but with a slightly different composition. The two female figures are still present, but their positions and attributes vary. The woman wearing the Phrygian cap holds an oak branch, a symbol of strength and durability. The woman representing abundance sits near a gear wheel, a symbol of industry and progress. The face value "10 Francs" is also repeated on the back. Legal disclaimers and signatures of the issuing authorities are also present.

This 10-franc banknote was issued in a particular historical context, during World War II and the occupation of France. It testifies to the economic and financial difficulties of this period, as well as the efforts made to maintain confidence in the national currency.
