Description

The 10 Francs banknote, issued by France, dating from September 9, 1943, belongs to the C.57 series and is classified as a "Minor" type banknote.

On the obverse of the banknote, a detailed scene can be observed. In the center, an allegorical female figure, wearing a Phrygian cap and draped, symbolizes the French Republic. She is depicted seated, holding an olive branch in her right hand, a symbol of peace and prosperity. Beside her, a winged child, possibly a putto, seems to present her with a cornucopia filled with fruits and flowers, evoking the fertility and wealth of the country. The background reveals an industrial landscape with factories and chimneys, highlighting the importance of industry in the French economy of the time. The face value, "10 Francs", is clearly indicated in words and numbers. The mention "Payable in cash to the bearer" guarantees the convertibility of the banknote. The signature of the general cashier and that of the general secretary are also present, authenticating the banknote.

The reverse of the banknote features similar motifs, but in a different composition. The allegorical female figure of the Republic is found again, this time standing, holding a scepter in her right hand, a symbol of power and authority. Beside her, a man, representing the French worker, is leaning on an anvil, holding a hammer, symbolizing labor and industry. The background presents a rural scene with cultivated fields and trees, evoking agriculture and nature. The face value, "10 Francs", is also repeated on the reverse, ensuring easy identification. The text "Article 139 of the Penal Code punishes counterfeiters and those who have used counterfeit banknotes with criminal imprisonment" warns against counterfeiting the banknote.

This 10 Francs banknote testifies to the historical and economic context of France in 1943.
