This French collector's coin is a 10 Francs Mathieu coin, dated 1983. It was specially issued in a case with a Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) finish. Its composition is an alloy of copper, aluminum, and nickel, giving it a specific color and durability.
The coin weighs 10 grams and has a diameter of 26.01 millimeters. The obverse of the coin features a stylized map of France, from which rays emanate. At the center of this map, the initials "RF" are interlaced in capital letters, representing the French Republic. The engraver's signature, MATHIEU, is also visible on this face.
The reverse of the coin offers a stylized representation of industrial France. It features shapes evoking cranes, pylons, and buildings, symbolizing the country's economic activity and industrial development. The face value of "10 FRANCS" is also inscribed on this face.
The edge of the coin is incuse-engraved with a laurel branch, the word "LIBERTE", an olive branch, the word "EGALITE", an ear of wheat, and the word "FRATERNITE". This inscription reflects the French republican motto. The B-type edge indicates that the edge is readable with the face value facing up.
Both sides of the coin were engraved by Georges Mathieu.
