The 10 Francs coin, minted in France in 2000, is a bimetallic coin. Its center is made of an alloy of copper, aluminum and nickel, while the ring is made of cupro-nickel.
The obverse of the coin depicts the Genius of the Bastille, an allegorical figure of freedom, standing on a column. He holds a torch in his right hand and breaks the chains of oppression in his left hand. The legend "Liberté Égalité Fraternité" is inscribed in an arc above the Genius. The engraver's signature, as well as the cornucopia and the owl, symbols of the Monnaie de Paris, are also present.
The reverse of the coin features a stylized map of France, surrounded by the twelve stars of the European flag. The face value "10 FRANCS" is prominently displayed in the center of the map. The year of issue, "2000", is visible at the bottom of the coin.
This coin has a diameter of 23 millimeters and a weight of 6.5 grams. Its mintage is limited to 15,000 copies in BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) quality.
This is a commemorative coin that marks the transition to the year 2000. It combines strong symbols of the French Republic with elements reminiscent of European integration.
