This 10 franc banknote, issued by the City of Lille, dates from December 15, 1917. It is a municipal bond, guaranteed by the city itself, and is part of the S 543 series, bearing the number 391.
On the front, one can read the inscription "VILLE DE LILLE" in capital letters, followed by the mention "BON COMMUNAL Guaranteed by the city TEN FRANCS". The text specifies that the issuance of this bond was approved by a resolution of the Municipal Council of December 15, 1917, itself approved by the Prefect of the North. The signatures of the Municipal Receiver and the Mayor are also present. At the bottom left of the front, there is the mention "S 543". The signature of the printer L. DANEL in LILLE is present at the bottom right.
The back of the banknote warns against counterfeiting, citing Article 139 of the Penal Code, which provides for forced labor for life for those who counterfeit or falsify banknotes authorized by law, as well as for those who use or introduce such counterfeit banknotes on French territory. It is specified that the bond is only valid if it is stamped with the dry stamp of the City's Control Service.
The printer of this banknote is L. Danel, whose printing house was located in Lille, France.
