This 10 cent communal note was issued by the city of Lille in France, dated October 31, 1917, and is part of Series A. It is a communal voucher, a form of emergency currency issued locally during times of crisis or currency shortage.
The front of the note bears the inscription "VILLE DE LILLE" at the top, followed by "BON COMMUNAL". The face value "10 Cents." is clearly indicated. A guarantee of reimbursement by the city is specified, with the statement "GUARANTEED BY THE CITY REDEEMABLE AT THE MUNICIPAL TREASURY FROM THE SIXTH MONTH AFTER THE CONCLUSION OF PEACE". The deliberation of the Municipal Council of October 31, 1917 is mentioned, as well as the approval by the Prefectoral Authority. The signatures of the RECEVEUR MUNICIPAL (Municipal Receiver) and the MAIRE (Mayor) also appear on the note. An important note specifies that "This voucher is only valid if it bears the stamp of the City Control Service". The mention "Série A" is also present.
The back of the note repeats the inscription "VILLE DE LILLE - BON COMMUNAL" at the top and bottom, with the value "10 CENTIMES" and "SERIE A" in the center. The name of the printer, "DELEMAR & DUBAR LILLE", is also printed on the back.
The note is printed in Latin script, both on the obverse and reverse. The printer Delemar & Dubar, based in Lille, France, is responsible for its production.
