The 1/2 Franc Sower coin, dated 1981, is a French production struck in nickel. It comes from Fleur de Coin (FDC) sets, which indicates a superior conservation quality, preserving the original brilliance of the strike.
The obverse of the coin features the Sower, a classic allegory of the French Republic. This representation is signed by O. Roty, the original engraver. There are two types of this coin: KM#931.1 with the signature "O. Roty" and KM#931.2 where the signature is preceded by "D'AP". The inscription "REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" accompanies this central motif.
The reverse features an olive branch placed under the face value of "1/2 FRANC". The republican motto "LIBERTE ? EGALITE ? FRATERNITE" encircles this ensemble. The engraver of this side of the coin is also Louis-Oscar Roty.
The coin weighs 3 grams and has a diameter of 4.5 millimeters. The edge is reeded, a technical characteristic that was once used to deter the clipping of precious metals on coins.
