This one-franc replacement banknote was issued by the Rouen Chamber of Commerce in 1920. It is a replacement issue. The text is in French.
On the front of the banknote, there is a medallion adorned with a heraldic shield in each upper corner. The center of the banknote presents a detailed view of the port of Rouen, offering a glimpse into the maritime activity of the city at that time. The inscriptions "VILLE DE ROUEN", "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE ROUEN", and the date "1918" can be read. The face value "UN FRANC" is clearly indicated. The mention "IMP. RICHARD PARIS" indicates the printer responsible for the production of this banknote.
The back of the banknote contains legal information and instructions regarding the exchange and reimbursement of divisional vouchers. Article 6 stipulates that the Municipal Council and the Chamber of Commerce will determine the date of liquidation of the issue and the final reimbursement of the vouchers. Article 7 specifies that the equivalent value of vouchers not presented for exchange within three months of the liquidation date will be deposited with the Municipal Treasury, which will ensure reimbursement for an additional year. After this period, holders will forfeit their rights. This information is taken from the deliberations of the Municipal Council and the Chamber of Commerce of August 17, 1914.
The printer of this banknote is Imprimerie Richard, located in Paris, France. The presence of bee motifs is noted, adding a decorative and symbolic element to the overall design of the banknote.
