The 1 Franc Semeuse 1997 in Proof (BE) strike is a collector's issue from the Monnaie de Paris, produced with special care for collectors. Not intended for circulation, this coin is distinguished by a mirror finish and perfectly sharp reliefs, characteristic of Proof strikes.
Struck in nickel, it has a diameter of 24 mm and a weight of 6 grams, with a smooth edge. The obverse depicts the famous Sower (Semeuse), a symbol of the French Republic, signed « D?AP. O.ROTY » in homage to Louis-Oscar Roty. The reverse features an olive branch, surrounded by the motto "Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité".
Issued in limited quantities as part of the annual Proof series, the 1997 version is sought after for the quality of its striking and its excellent state of preservation, usually in the original case. Demonetized in 2005, it is now a popular coin among collectors of modern French coins.
A must-have to complete a BE series or enrich a collection dedicated to the Sower.
