The 1 Franc banknote, issued by the Marseille Chamber of Commerce, dates from June 5, 1917, and belongs to the T-R series. This French banknote is a testimony to the monetary history of France during the early 20th century.
On the front of the banknote, the mention "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE MARSEILLE" is clearly displayed, highlighting the issuing institution. The face value, "UN FRANC", is also clearly visible. The signatures of the Treasurer and Delegate Members are also present, authenticating the banknote.
The back of the banknote features an extract from the deliberations of the Marseille Chamber of Commerce. This text explains the decision to proceed with a new replacement print run to withdraw the current banknotes from circulation. It specifies that the new banknotes will be issued in sums of fifty francs or multiples, in exchange for banknotes from the Banque de France, cash or used banknotes. In addition, it is indicated that these banknotes are redeemable in Banque de France banknotes or cash. The value "1Fr." is repeated twice on this side.
The mention "H. ROUIT INVT & DELT IMP. MOULLOT - MARSEILLE" indicates the name of the designer, H. Rouit, as well as the printer, MOULLOT from Marseille. The entire banknote is written in Latin script, which was the norm for official documents of the time.
