This 1 Franc banknote, issued by the Paris Chamber of Commerce, dates from March 10, 1920 and belongs to series A.34. The front of the banknote features ornamental floral motifs, framing a winged caduceus placed in a medallion on the left and a representation of the head of Mercury in a medallion on the right. The inscriptions "CHAMBRE de COMMERCE de PARIS" and "UN FRANC" are clearly printed, with the nominal value "1" repeated on either side. The series "A.34" and the control number "039.691" are also visible. The signature "G. FRAIPONT" indicates the name of the designer, Gustave Fraipont, while the mention "G. FRAIPONT IMP CHAIX PARIS" identifies the printer as Imprimerie Chaix of Paris.
The back of the banknote offers a view of the Île de la Cité. A medallion surrounded by floral motifs is positioned on the left, containing a representation of a ship. The inscription "LES BILLETS EN CIRCULATION SERONT ECHANGEABLES CONTRE DES BILLETS DE LA BANQUE DE FRANCE JUSQU'AU 1er JUILLET 1922" specifies the conditions for exchanging the banknote, in accordance with the deliberation of the Paris Chamber of Commerce dated March 10, 1920. The nominal value "1" is also printed on the back.
This banknote does not have a watermark. It was printed by Imprimerie Chaix, a company based in Paris and active from 1845 to 1965.
