This 1 franc banknote was issued by the Chamber of Commerce of Montluçon-Gannat, with ministerial authorization dated December 19, 1921. It is a necessity banknote, issued in a particular economic context, where official means of payment could be limited.
The obverse of the banknote features the inscription "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE MONTLUCON-GANNAT" at the top. Below, one can read "Autorisation Ministérielle du 19 Décembre 1921". The signatures of the Treasurer and the President are affixed, followed by the mention of the series "Série B" and an identification number "6937". The promise of exchangeability against banknotes of the Banque de France is also present. Finally, the name of the printers "HERBIN & BOUCHÉ MONTLUÇON" appears at the bottom.
The reverse of the banknote does not contain descriptive text, but simply indicates the name of the printer: "Fernand Herbin & Henri Bouché Imprimeurs, Montluçon, France".
The banknote is printed in black on light-colored paper. Its format is rectangular, with modest dimensions. The motifs are simple and functional, highlighting the essential information relating to its issuance and validity. The whole testifies to a local production, aimed at meeting a specific need for monetary circulation.
