This 1 Franc banknote was issued by the Limoges Chamber of Commerce in 1918, belonging to Series E. This is a type of banknote issued in France during this period by various chambers of commerce to alleviate a shortage of currency.
The front of the banknote features the inscription "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE LIMOGES" at the top, followed by the face value "UN FRANC". The mention "Série E" is also present, as well as a serial number, here "66605". Signatures appear with the titles "Le Président", "Par délégation Vice-Président" and "Le Trésorier". The initials "CCL" are also printed. The printer's mention, "IMP. P. DUMONT A LIMOGES", is indicated at the bottom.
On the back, we find the inscription "Ce billet garanti par dépôt d'égale somme au trésor Public, devra être présenté au remboursement avant le 1er janvier 1923". This mention specifies the terms of repayment of the banknote, guaranteeing its value by an equivalent deposit to the Public Treasury and setting a deadline for its repayment.
The banknote incorporates a watermark representing bees, a symbolic motif. The Pierre Dumont printing house, located in Limoges, is responsible for the printing of this banknote.
