This 1 franc banknote is an issue of the Chamber of Commerce of Eure-et-Loir, dating from April 1917, corresponding to the second issue of this institution. The front of the banknote displays the inscription "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE D'EURE ET LOIR" in capital letters. It also includes the mention "2ème émission avril 1917" indicating the date of this specific issue. The face value, "UN FRANC", is clearly indicated, accompanied by the signatures of the President and Treasurer of the Chamber of Commerce. A note specifies that the banknote is "Garanti par un dépôt au trésor Public" (Guaranteed by a deposit in the Public Treasury). The name of the printer, "E TROCHARD CHARTRES", also appears on this side.
On the back, the year "1917" is highlighted. An inscription stipulates that "Ces bons seront remboursables à Chartres en billets à la Banque de France à toute époque, jusqu?au 1er octobre 1920, par groupe de dix au moins de chaque coupure" (These bonds will be redeemable in Chartres in banknotes at the Banque de France at any time, until October 1, 1920, in groups of at least ten of each denomination). The value "1 Fr." is repeated twice. The names of several cities, "Châteauroux, Chartres, Nogent-le-Rotrou, Dreux", are also printed on this side. The banknote's watermark depicts bees.
The banknote was printed by Imprimerie E. Trochard, located in Chartres, France. All inscriptions are written in Latin. This banknote testifies to the economic context and financial practices of the time, when Chambers of Commerce could issue their own currency to facilitate local trade.
