This 50 centime note was issued by the Chamber of Commerce of Lorient (Morbihan) on September 3, 1915. It is a voucher issued during a period of conflict. The front of the note features a central oval integrated into a frame adorned with geometric and vegetal motifs. Heraldic shields are arranged at the four corners of the frame, as well as on its upper part. On either side of a crowned ermine spot, two other heraldic shields are positioned. The face value, "BON DE 50 CENTIMES", is clearly indicated, accompanied by the serial number "256747". The signatures of the President and Vice-Presidents of the Chamber of Commerce of Lorient are also present. The mention "OBERTHUR - RENNES" indicates the printer.
The back of the note features a central oval, this time framed by vegetal motifs. The face value "0.50f" is repeated four times. The text specifies that the vouchers issued by the Chamber of Commerce of Lorient are exchangeable for banknotes of the Banque de France in multiples of twenty. It is also stipulated that the reimbursement of these vouchers is guaranteed by a deposit of equal value at the Banque de France, in the name of the Chamber of Commerce of Lorient.
The note has no visible watermark. The inscriptions are written in Latin. The entire note testifies to a time when local chambers of commerce were led to issue their own currency to alleviate economic difficulties and shortages of cash.
