This 1 franc note was issued by the Chamber of Commerce of Lorient in 1915. It is a voucher, used during a shortage of fiduciary currency during the First World War. The note is double-sided.
On the obverse, an ornamental frame composed of geometric and vegetal motifs surrounds the inscriptions. A heraldic shield is present in each corner of the note, as well as at the top. On either side of a crowned ermine spot, two additional heraldic shields are positioned. The mention of the issuing institution, "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE LORIENT (MORBIHAN)", appears at the top of the note, followed by the issue date, "EMISSION DU 3 SEPTEMBRE 1915". The face value, "BON DE UN FRANC", is also indicated, as well as a serial number, here "245683". The signatures of the President and Vice-Presidents of the Chamber of Commerce of Lorient are affixed. The name of the printer, "OBERTHUR - RENNES", is mentioned at the bottom of the note.
The reverse features a frame adorned with vegetal motifs. The main inscription specifies the conditions for exchanging the vouchers: "The vouchers issued by the Chamber of Commerce of Lorient will be exchanged upon presentation by twenty or multiples of twenty, for banknotes of the Banque de France". A repayment guarantee is also mentioned: "Their repayment is guaranteed by a deposit of equal value at the Banque de France, in the name of the Chamber of Commerce of Lorient".
The note does not have a watermark. It was printed by Oberthur, a printing company based in Rennes, France.
