This 1 franc banknote was issued by the Chamber of Commerce of Chalon-sur-Saône, Autun and Louhans. The date of issue printed on the banknote is November 5, 1918.
On the front, we can read the mention "Deliberation of November 5, 1918" followed by the designation of the issuing institution: "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE CHALON-SUR-SAÔNE, AUTUN & LOUHANS". The face value, "UN FRANC", is clearly indicated. The signatures of the Treasurer and the President of the Chamber of Commerce also appear on this side. The name of the printer, "IMP. B.ARNAUD_LYON_PARIS", is mentioned at the bottom of the front.
The back of the banknote displays the face value "1 FRANC". There is a redemption clause stating that "These vouchers, exchangeable for banknotes of the Banque de France, must be presented for redemption before November 6, 1923 unless a decision extends this period." This inscription indicates the limited validity period of the banknote and its convertibility into national currency. The printer identified is B. Arnaud, based in Villeurbanne, France. This printing house was active from 1898 to 1990.
The banknote belongs to the D 159 series.
