Remarks:
This 1 franc banknote was issued by the Chamber of Commerce of Boulogne-sur-Mer, following a deliberation of the chamber dated August 14, 1914.
The front of the banknote features the following inscriptions: "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE BOULOGNE-SUR-MER" at the top, followed by "Délibération de la Chambre du 14 Août 1914". A serial number, "118984 B1 . 118984", is printed on either side of the face value "UN FRANC". The mentions "Le Trésorier" and "Le Président de la Chambre de Commerce" also appear, indicating the signatories responsible for issuing this banknote.
This banknote reflects the specific economic and financial context of the time, when Chambers of Commerce were authorized to issue emergency currency due to the exceptional circumstances related to the First World War. The issue of this specific banknote is part of a broader series of similar initiatives taken by various local institutions to compensate for the lack of liquidity and facilitate trade during this period.
The presence of the serial number allows to precisely identify each issued banknote, and the signatures of the Treasurer and the President of the Chamber of Commerce authenticate the issuance of this banknote by the competent institution.
