This French banknote was issued by the Chamber of Commerce of Boulogne-sur-Mer. It has a nominal value of one franc. The year of issue of this banknote is 1914.
The front of the banknote features the following inscriptions: "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE BOULOGNE-SUR-MER" at the top, indicating the issuing institution. Below this, we can read "Délibération de la Chambre du 14 Août 1914", referring to the date of the decision to issue this banknote. The nominal value "UN FRANC" is clearly indicated in the center. The signatures of the Treasurer and the President of the Chamber of Commerce also appear on the front, authenticating the banknote. The number "1" is printed in two places, at the top left and bottom right. A serial number, "1132855", is also present, as well as the series indication "Série B1".
The banknote was issued in a particular context, that of the First World War. Faced with difficulties in the supply of currency, many Chambers of Commerce in France were authorized to issue emergency banknotes to facilitate local transactions. This banknote from Boulogne-sur-Mer testifies to this historical period and the measures taken to maintain economic activity in times of crisis.
