This 1 Franc banknote was issued by the Chamber of Commerce of Béziers in 1918 and belongs to series ZG 57.22. The front of the note shows the face value "UN FRANC" in capital letters. The serial number "ZG 57.22" and another number, "49.438", are also present. The signatures of the treasurer and the president of the Chamber of Commerce are affixed. The inscription "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE BEZIERS" is clearly visible, followed by the statement "DELIBERATION DE LA CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DU 19 NOV. 1918". A clause specifies that the note is "ÉCHANGEABLE A VUE CONTRE DES BILLETS DE LA BANQUE DE FRANCE". The writing is in Latin.
The back of the note, also in Latin script, repeats the face value "UN FRANC". A redemption condition is stipulated: "Ce billet devra être présenté au remboursement avant le premier janvier 1922 sauf décision prolongeant ce délai." (This note must be presented for reimbursement before January 1, 1922, unless a decision extends this deadline.) The names "MAGROU INV." and "CADENAT FRÈRE" are printed, indicating the designer Jean Marie Joseph Magrou and the printer Cadenat Frères of Béziers, France, respectively.
The note does not have a watermark. All inscriptions and graphic elements demonstrate the economic and administrative context of the time, when Chambers of Commerce could issue emergency banknotes during periods of crisis.
