This 1 franc banknote was issued by the Belfort Chamber of Commerce on December 21, 1918. It belongs to the second series of this local issue. The front of the banknote features the Lion of Belfort statue, an emblematic monument of the city.
The inscriptions on the front include the mention "Chambre de commerce de Belfort" followed by the date of deliberation, "December 21, 1918". The face value, "1 franc", is clearly indicated, as well as the serial number "Série 2. 15,131". The name of the printer, "IMP. B.ARNAUD_LYON_PARIS", is also included.
On the back, the face value "1 FRANC" is shown in large format. A text specifies that the counter-value of these bonds is deposited in the treasury and that their repayment is carried out at the public counters in the district of the Belfort Chamber of Commerce. The deadline for reimbursement is set at December 22, 1923, unless extended. The functions of the treasurer and vice-president are mentioned without the names of the people occupying them.
An important mention emphasizes "CIRCULATION LEGALE DANS TOUTE L'ALSACE-LORRAINE", indicating that this banknote was legal tender in these regions. The printer, B. Arnaud, based in Villeurbanne, is identified as having been active from 1898 to 1990.
