This 1 Franc banknote was issued by the Chamber of Commerce of Bayonne, France, on May 22, 1916. It belongs to Series iii and bears the number [006.294].
The obverse of the banknote features the following inscriptions in Latin characters: "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE BAYONNE" at the top. The deliberation of the chamber of commerce is dated "22-05-1916". The face value "1f" is repeated twice, framing the mention "UN FRANC". The signatures of the Treasurer and the President of the Chamber of Commerce also appear on the banknote. It also includes the mention "Série [iii] / [006.294]" and the promise of exchangeability "Echangeable contre des billets de la Banque de France".
The reverse of the banknote, also in Latin characters, bears the inscription "DEPARTEMENT DES HAUTES PYRENEES" at the top. An important instruction is specified: "Ce billet devra être présenté au remboursement avant le [1er Juin 1921]", indicating a deadline for its exchange.
This banknote has no watermark. Its simple design and the information it contains reflect the economic context and the imperatives of the time of its creation, during the First World War.
