This 1 Franc banknote was issued by the Marseille Chamber of Commerce on June 5, 1917, and belongs to series R. The front of the banknote features the inscription "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE MARSEILLE" at the top, followed by the nominal value "UN FRANC" in capital letters. It also includes the signatures of the Treasurer and Delegate Members.
The back of the banknote contains an extract from the deliberations of the Marseille Chamber of Commerce. This text explains the decision to proceed with a new replacement printing of a new type of banknotes, with the aim of withdrawing existing banknotes from circulation. It specifies that the new banknotes will be issued in sums of fifty francs or multiples of fifty francs, in exchange for an equivalent sum in banknotes from the Banque de France, in cash, or in used banknotes. It also indicates that these banknotes will be redeemable in banknotes from the Banque de France or in cash. The nominal value "1 Fr." is repeated twice at the bottom of the banknote.
The graphic design of the banknote is signed H. Rouit, with the mention "H. ROUIT INVT & DELT". The printing was carried out by MOULLOT in Marseille, as indicated by the mention "IMP. MOULLOT - MARSEILLE". The banknote is written in Latin, reflecting the use of this language in official documents of the time.
