This 1 Franc banknote was issued by the Marseille Chamber of Commerce on June 5, 1917 and belongs to series N. The front of the banknote features the inscription "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE MARSEILLE" at the top, followed by the face value "UN FRANC" in capital letters. The signatures of the Treasurer and the Delegate Members are also present.
The back of the banknote contains an excerpt from the deliberations of the Marseille Chamber of Commerce. This text explains the decision to proceed with a new replacement printing of a new type of denominations, with the aim of withdrawing existing denominations from circulation. It is specified that the new denominations will be issued in sums of fifty francs or multiples of fifty francs, in exchange for an equivalent sum in Banque de France banknotes, cash, or used denominations. It is also indicated that these denominations will be redeemable in Banque de France banknotes or cash. The face value "1 Fr." is repeated twice at the bottom of the banknote.
The graphic design of the banknote is signed H. Rouit, with the mention "H. ROUIT INVT & DELT". The printing was done by MOULLOT in Marseille, as indicated by the mention "IMP. MOULLOT - MARSEILLE". The banknote is written in Latin, reflecting the use of this language in official documents of the time.
