Description

The 1 franc banknote from the Limoges Chamber of Commerce, dating from 1914, is a testimony to French monetary history. This banknote is part of Series C and bears the number 94762.

On the front, you can read the inscription "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE LIMOGES", followed by the nominal value "UN FRANC". The signatures of the President and Treasurer of the Chamber of Commerce are also present, authenticating the banknote.

The back of the banknote details the conditions for exchange and reimbursement. It specifies that this banknote is guaranteed by a deposit of equal sum at the Banque de France. The counters of the Tulle and Brive branches are designated as places of exchange. An important note indicates that the banknote must be presented for reimbursement within five years from the date of issue, otherwise it will be time-barred. The printer, Imprimerie Pierre Dumont of Limoges, is also mentioned.

All the inscriptions are written in Latin, a language used for official documents of the time. This banknote, printed by Pierre Dumont in Limoges, offers an overview of local monetary practices in France at the beginning of the 20th century and the measures taken to ensure public confidence in the local currency in a context of financial tensions linked to the start of the First World War.
