Description

This 1 Franc banknote was issued by the Limoges Chamber of Commerce on August 17, 1914. It is an emergency issue, a common practice during economic crises or wars when official currencies are scarce.

The banknote is printed in blue on a pink background, a color combination that gives it a distinctive appearance. The absence of a watermark is a notable feature of this type of banknote, often produced with limited technical means in times of crisis.

Two handwritten signatures appear on the banknote. The first is that of the "President" of the Chamber of Commerce, while the second is that of the "Vice-President" acting "By Delegation." These signatures authenticate the banknote and commit the responsibility of the issuing institution.

A serial number in black is also present, serving to identify each banknote individually and to ensure accurate tracking of emissions. The printer, P. Dumont of Limoges, is mentioned in the lower right of the banknote, attesting to the local origin of its production.

The banknote's design is simple but neat, reflecting the constraints of the time and the need to quickly produce a large quantity of currency. The motifs and ornaments are reduced to the essentials, favoring the clarity of information and ease of recognition.

This 1 Franc banknote is a testament to a particular period in French history, marked by the economic difficulties and upheavals of World War I. It represents a valuable testimony to the ingenuity and adaptability of local institutions in the face of exceptional circumstances.
