This 1 Franc banknote was issued by the Chamber of Commerce of Le Mans on July 8, 1915, and is part of the 1st series. It is a bond guaranteed by a deposit of equal sum at the Treasury.
On the front, the banknote bears the inscription "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DU MANS" in capital letters. A serial number, "014214", is also present, followed by the mentions "Le Trésorier" and "Le Président", indicating the signatories responsible for the issue. The face value, "1 FRANC", is clearly visible. The date of issue, "1er mars 1917", is inscribed on the front.
The back of the banknote displays the face value "1f" repeated twice. The validity period, "1915 - 1922", is mentioned. An inscription specifies that the bond is guaranteed by a deposit at the Treasury and exchangeable for banknotes at the Banque de France in Le Mans. It is stipulated that the reimbursement must be requested within five years before July 31, 1920, otherwise it will be time-barred. The mention "1ère Série" is repeated twice. The printer, "IMP. MONNOYER LE MANS", is also indicated on the back.
The banknote's watermark features bees, a symbolic motif often associated with industry and economic activity. The Monnoyer printing house, located in Le Mans, France, is responsible for printing this banknote.
