This 1 franc banknote was issued by the Chamber of Commerce of Le Mans, dated March 1, 1917, and belongs to the 2nd series. It is a voucher guaranteed by a deposit of an equal sum at the Treasury.
The obverse of the banknote features the inscription "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DU MANS" in capital letters, followed by a six-digit serial number (508463). The signatures of the Treasurer and the President are affixed below this inscription. The face value "1 FRANC" is clearly indicated, and the issue date "March 1, 1917" is also mentioned.
The reverse of the banknote bears the face value "1f 1f" repeated in the upper left and upper right corners. The validity period of the banknote is specified: "1917 - 1922". An important clause stipulates that this voucher is guaranteed by a deposit of an equal sum at the Treasury and that it is exchangeable for banknotes at the Banque de France, in Le Mans. The banknote had to be presented for reimbursement within five years before May 1, 1922, under penalty of prescription. The mention "2ème Série 2ème Série" is repeated. The printer, "IMP. MONNOYER LE MANS", is also mentioned.
The banknote's watermark features bees. The printing was done by Imprimerie Monnoyer, located in Le Mans, France. The texts are written in Latin and cursive Latin.
