This 1 franc banknote, issued by the La Rochelle Chamber of Commerce, dates from September 1920 and belongs to Series A. It is a bond issued, guaranteed by a deposit of equal amount in the Treasury, and exchangeable in denominations of twenty francs or multiples of twenty francs at the branch of the Banque de France in La Rochelle. It was imperative to present it for redemption before December 31, 1923, under penalty of prescription.
The front of the banknote features a rectangular design topped by an oval, both framed by seaweed motifs. The central oval offers a detailed illustration of the port of La Rochelle-Pallice. The inscriptions on this side include: "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE" at the top, followed by "1 - LA ROCHELLE - 1". There is also the mention "PORT DE LA ROCHELLE-PALLICE", as well as the indications "Le Président" and "Le Trésorier". The face value "UN FRANC" is clearly indicated, accompanied by the "SERIE A" and the date "September 1920".
The back of the banknote bears the inscription "EMISSION SEPTEMBRE 1920", as well as the name of the printers "DEVAMBEZ C. PARIS - ?laveau". A regulatory text specifies that the bonds issued are guaranteed by a deposit of equal amount in the Treasury and are exchangeable at the Banque de France in La Rochelle. It is recalled that these bonds had to be presented for redemption before December 31, 1923.
