The 1 franc banknote issued by the Chamber of Commerce of La Roche-sur-Yon in 1915 is a testament to French monetary history. This banknote is distinguished by its front, adorned with a red frame embellished with decorative motifs. The coat of arms of La Roche-sur-Yon, framed by ornamental leaves, occupies the upper part, flanked by the initials "RF" for République Française on each side.
The lower part of the banknote features a rectangle containing the essential inscriptions, with the mention "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE LA ROCHE-SUR-YON & DE LA VENDÉE" discreetly printed on 24 lines in the background. On the left, a representation of the sower in action, spreading seeds in a field, evokes agricultural work. On the right, a rural scene depicts a farmer busy sweeping hay, with a cow in the background.
The inscriptions "RF", "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE LA ROCHE-s/-YON & DE LA VENDÉE", "BON DE UN FRANC", the signature of the President and Treasurer, as well as the mention of Series H, are clearly indicated. The name of the printer, "IMP. MODERNE, NANTES", also appears on the front.
The back of the banknote features an ornate red frame, with the date "1915" inscribed at the bottom, surrounded by a decorative leaf motif. The text specifies that the bonds issued by the Chamber of Commerce are exchangeable for banknotes from the Banque de France, with reimbursement guaranteed by a deposit of equal value at the Banque de France. The banknote has no watermark. The printing was done by Imprimerie Moderne De Nantes (Beuchet & Vanden Brugge) in France.
