Description

This 1 Franc banknote was issued by the Grenoble Chamber of Commerce in France. Dating from 1916, it reflects a time when chambers of commerce could issue their own currency during economic crises. The banknote is part of series 105.

The obverse of the banknote features the inscription "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE GRENOBLE" in capital letters, indicating the issuing authority. It also includes the mention "Délibération du 14 septembre 1916", referring to the decision authorizing the issue of this banknote. The face value, "UN FRANC", is clearly indicated. The signatures of the Treasurer and the President of the Chamber of Commerce are affixed, authenticating the banknote. The mention "Série 105" identifies the series of issue. The name of the printer, "IMP.B.ARNAUD LYON _ PARIS", also appears on the obverse.

The reverse of the banknote displays the face value "1 FRANC". An important note specifies that "Ce billet devra être présenté au remboursement avant le 15 septembre 1921, sauf décision prorogeant ce délai", indicating a deadline for exchanging the banknote for official currency. The printer B. Arnaud, based in Villeurbanne, is mentioned. This company was active from 1898 to 1990.

The banknote is printed in Latin script, the administrative and commercial language of the time.
