Description

This 1 Franc note was issued by the Chamber of Commerce of Granville, France, on October 5, 1917. It is an emergency issue, released in a specific economic context related to World War I. These notes were intended to facilitate local transactions by alleviating the shortage of small change.

The note is printed in brown, with specific details to note. It does not have a watermark. Two signatures appear on the note, authenticating its issuance by the Chamber of Commerce. A serial number, printed in black, is present, with a character height of 3.5 or 4 mm. The name "J. GOACHET" is printed at the bottom left of the note, while the mention "Granville" appears at the bottom right.

The back of the note features a representation of Mont Saint-Michel, printed in brown-brown. The mention "Granville (Manche)" is also written there, specifying the geographical location of the issue. All of these graphic and textual elements give the note its authenticity and allow it to be identified precisely.

This type of note bears witness to a time when local institutions had to take initiatives to maintain economic activity in the face of currency shortages. It represents a testament to local economic history and the adaptations put in place during World War I.
