This 1 franc banknote was issued by the Chamber of Commerce of Corrèze in 1915. It is a type of emergency currency, issued locally to alleviate the shortage of cash during the First World War.
The obverse of the banknote bears the inscription "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE LA CORREZE" in capital letters. Below, the face value "UN FRANC" is indicated. The signatures of the President and Treasurer of the Chamber of Commerce are also present, dated March 25, 1915.
The reverse of the banknote specifies that it is guaranteed by a deposit of an equivalent sum at the Banque de France. It is exchangeable at the counters of the Tulle and Brive branches. A prescription clause is mentioned, stipulating that the banknote must be presented for reimbursement within five years from its date of issue. The name of the printer, "IMP P DUMONT LIMOGES", is also indicated.
The banknote is printed in Latin characters. The Pierre Dumont printing house, located in Limoges, is behind its production. All the inscriptions reflect the economic and administrative context of the time, marked by the need to create alternative means of payment in times of crisis.
