Description

This 1 Franc banknote was issued in 1920 by the Chamber of Commerce of Avignon, an institution that brought together the cities of Avignon, Apt, Carpentras, and Orange. This is a replacement issue.

This banknote has no watermark. The printing is done in green on a yellow-orange background. The face value and serial number are printed in red, providing a visual contrast to the rest of the designs.

The banknote features two handwritten signatures, those of the "President" and the "Secretary-Treasurer" of the Chamber of Commerce. These signatures authenticate the banknote and commit the responsibility of the issuing institution.

In the lower left corner of the banknote, we find the mention "BERGER - LEVRAULT _ NANCY - PARIS", indicating the printer responsible for the manufacture of the banknote. The mention "Second replacement issue 1920" is printed in red, highlighting the particular context of this issue.

It is important to note that this banknote was redeemable until December 31, 1925, after which it had no monetary value. This information is crucial to understanding the role of this banknote as an emergency currency issued in a specific economic context.
