Description

The 1 franc note issued by the Amiens Chamber of Commerce in 1915 represents a form of emergency money issued during a time of conflict. This type of note was produced to alleviate the lack of fractional currency in circulation during the First World War.

This note has graphic characteristics specific to its time. The front of the note features textual inscriptions indicating the nominal value, the issuer and the year of issue. It includes the mention "Chambre de Commerce d'Amiens" as well as the value "1 Franc". The graphic design is simple and functional, reflecting the context of economic and social emergency of the period.

The back of the note includes similar elements, with textual inscriptions and potentially simplified decorative motifs. The typography used is that common at the beginning of the 20th century. The entire note is designed to be easily identifiable and difficult to counterfeit with the means of the time.

This type of emergency note is a historical testimony to the economic difficulties encountered during the First World War. It allows us to understand how local institutions, such as Chambers of Commerce, contributed to maintaining a certain monetary stability in the absence of sufficient official coinage.
