This French coin is a one centime of Napoleon III, minted in 1856 in Strasbourg. It is made of bronze and weighs 1 gram, with a diameter of 15 millimeters. The mintage for this year and mint amounts to 1,785,745 copies.
The obverse of the coin features the portrait of Napoleon III, bare head. The circular legend reads "NAPOLEON III EMPEREUR", separated by a bar from the engraver's name, Barre, and the year of issue, 1853. The engraver responsible for this design is Jacques-Jean Barre.
The reverse of the coin depicts an imperial eagle. The legend "EMPIRE FRANÇAIS" is inscribed in an arc above the eagle. Below, the face value "* UN CENTIME *" is found, framed by stars. The letter "A" indicates the mint, which is Strasbourg. Jacques-Jean Barre is also the engraver of the reverse.
The edge of the coin is smooth. The Strasbourg mint is identified by the letters "BB".
