This coin is a French centime, dating from 1985. It was initially issued in a set. The coin was struck in steel. It weighs 1.65 grams and measures 15 millimeters in diameter.
The 1 centime de franc coin, type "Épi" (Ear of Wheat), was minted from 1962, succeeding previous types such as the Sower. It has a simple and clean design, reflecting the economic austerity of the time and the need to produce low-value coins economically. The iconography of the ear of wheat symbolizes French agriculture and prosperity.
The obverse of the coin represents the stylized ear of wheat, a symbol of rural and agricultural France. The legend "République Française" is inscribed in an arc above the ear of wheat. The year, in this case 1985, is generally located at the bottom of the coin. The reverse indicates the face value, "1 centime", as well as two cornucopias, the mark of the Paris Mint, and the representation of the general engraver's mark.
The 1 centime Épi coin was demonetized with the introduction of the euro in 2002.
