Description

This is a French coin with a nominal value of 1 centime, issued in 1920. The coin is struck in bronze and weighs 1 gram, with a diameter of 15 millimeters. The mintage for this specific year is 2,593,599 copies.

The obverse of the coin features a bust of Liberty facing right. Liberty is wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with a crown. Inscribed in hollow, under the bust, is the signature "DANIEL-DUPUIS". The circular legend around the bust bears the inscription "REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE", written in Latin characters.

The reverse of the coin displays the value "1 / CENTIME" as well as the year "1920", all framed by an olive branch. Above the value, the republican motto "LIBERTE EGALITE FRATERNITE" is found, also in Latin characters. The edge of the coin is smooth.

The design of this coin is attributed to the engraver Jean-Baptiste-Daniel Dupuis, who created both the obverse and reverse designs. The monetary type, commonly called "Dupuis", is recognizable by the representation of Liberty and the typography used for the inscriptions.
