Description

The 1 centime Ceres coin, dated 1882 and minted at the Paris Mint (identified by the letter "A"), continues the bronze issues produced under the French Third Republic.

Regarding its physical characteristics, this coin has an approximate weight of 1 gram and a diameter of 15 millimeters. The metal used for its manufacture is bronze, an alloy of copper, tin, and sometimes other metals.

The obverse of the coin depicts the bust of Ceres, a Roman mythological figure associated with agriculture, harvests, and fertility. The goddess is represented wearing a crown composed of ears of wheat, oak leaves, and olive branches, symbolizing abundance and agricultural prosperity. The whole is surrounded by the legend "RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE", which indicates the nature of the political regime in force at the time of issue.

The reverse of the coin shows the face value, expressed as "1 CENTIME", as well as the year of minting, "1882". The mint mark "A", located under the date, indicates that the coin was produced at the Paris Mint. A fasces, a symbol of republican authority and justice, is also present under the date. A laurel wreath, a symbol of victory and honor, frames all the elements of the reverse.

It should be noted that the privy mark present on this coin is a fasces, which replaces the anchor found on some other variants. This change characterizes a specific version by the general engraver Jean Lagrange.
