The 1872 A Ceres 1 centime coin, minted in Paris (workshop identified by the letter "A"), belongs to the series of coins of the French Third Republic, issued after the fall of the Second Empire. It is made of bronze, weighs approximately 1 gram with a diameter of 15 mm, and features on the obverse the bust of Ceres, goddess of agriculture, wearing a crown of ears of wheat, olive, and oak, a symbol of prosperity and peace, surrounded by the legend "RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE". The reverse shows the face value "1 CENTIME", the year "1872", the mint mark "A" at the bottom, and is surrounded by a laurel wreath. The presence of a small anchor as the engraver general Jean Lagrange's mint mark confirms the period of minting.
